Machines

How long the slot floor runs

Slot machines at Great Northern Casino switch on at 9:30 a.m. every day. Closing time depends on the night. After a Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday, the machines stop at 3 a.m. After a Friday or a Saturday, they run to 4 a.m. Over 400 slot machines fill the floor, and a separate VLT room holds 40 VLTs.

Read each closing time against the day the night began. Roll in at 1 a.m. on a Saturday and you are still inside Friday's shift, with the floor open until 4 a.m. Every late shift crosses into the next calendar day this way.

Tables

When the live tables run

Live tables keep a separate schedule. On Sunday they open at noon and close at 2 a.m. Monday and Tuesday start later, at 2 p.m., with the same 2 a.m. close. From Wednesday through Saturday the tables start at noon and run until 3 a.m. Arrive on a Monday afternoon before 2 p.m. and the slots are running while the tables are still closed.

Games listed are Roulette, Chase The Flush, Blackjack, Free Bet Blackjack, Three Card Poker and Ultimate Texas Hold'em. Table minimums are not posted. Questions about a specific game go to table games at extension 200 on 780-539-4454.

Poker

Calling ahead for a poker seat

Great Northern Casino has 3 poker tables. Cash games offered are Dealer's Choice, Pot Limit Omaha and No Limit Hold'em. Dealer's Choice cycles through Pineapple, Pot Limit Omaha, Crazy Pineapple and No Limit Hold'em. Start times vary daily, and the room lists no separate opening hours.

The Houseman is the one to ask, in the room or by phone at extension 121 on 780-539-4454. A cash game seat can be reserved from one day before the game, during poker room hours. From as far as Fort St. John, it makes sense to call the day before.

Lounge

The lounge until 2 a.m.

The Platinum Lounge keeps one schedule all week, from 9:30 a.m. until 2 a.m. That matches the 2 a.m. close of the tables on Sunday, Monday and Tuesday. On the other nights it closes before both the tables and the slots. Kitchen hours inside that window are a question for the staff.

Wild Horse

The other room after dark

Wild Horse Casino & Lounge sits inside Evergreen Park, on the southern edge of Grande Prairie. Its floor holds slot machines and VLTs, with no table games, and runs from 10 a.m. to 1 a.m. every day. Only adults 18 and over go in.

Its lounge serves drinks and meals from 9 a.m. to midnight every day, with breakfast from 9 to 11 a.m. Arrive in town after 1 a.m. and this room has closed. The slots at Great Northern Casino run later, to 3 a.m. or 4 a.m.
